What would happen if Luke Skywalker joined the dark side? Or if the characters of Harry Potter went to a regular high school? What if.....Let your imagination run wild as you learn how this genre puts the power of creation into your hands.

In this 2-session workshop, expert Abigail Kirby will introduce you to the fanfiction genre and its history, defining key terms and phrases, and exploring its unique culture. Get ready to add a new twist to your love of creative writing!

Abigail Kirby holds a Masters in Media and Cinema Communications. Her research thesis titled "The Fan/Producer Duality in Micro Fandoms: Examinations of Collaboration, Creation, and Capital" focused on fans as the co-creators of new texts. Much of her other research focuses on the analysis of popular culture and fandom, especially fanfiction.

Abigail has taught fanfiction classes in conjunction with Northwestern University since 2016 and is currently a writer and editor for The Daily Fandom.
