Are you ready to take the reins of your favorite fictional universe? Try your hand at rewriting the ending to your favorite show, creating a romantic relationship between two popular characters, or even crossing over two different universes from best-selling novels. When it comes to fanfiction, you're in charge!
In this 2-session workshop with expert Abigail Kirby, you will learn the key elements of this genre and have the opportunity to experiment with characters and plots through your own writing. Anything is possible!
Abigail Kirby holds a Masters in Media and Cinema Communications. Her research thesis titled "The Fan/Producer Duality in Micro Fandoms: Examinations of Collaboration, Creation, and Capital" focused on fans as the co-creators of new texts. Much of her other research focuses on the analysis of popular culture and fandom, especially fanfiction.
Abigail has taught fanfiction classes in conjunction with Northwestern University since 2016 and is currently a writer and editor for The Daily Fandom.
