In this weekly, 4-session workshop, expert Ian McNeely will walk you through the fundamentals of playwriting, how do refine and focus your ideas, as well as practical advice for collaboration and production.
This workshop focuses on the process of writing and will be interactive and hands-on. It will culminate in a public Zoom reading of your piece with NYC actors and give you a solid foundation for writing your own original plays.

Ian McNeely is the founder and artistic director of Broken Ghost Immersives, an NYC performance company exploring the intersection of narrative and games. Their 2018 sci-fi experience, The Bunker, ran in residence at Wildrence on Manhattan's Lower East Side for 18 months and was hailed by No Proscenium as, "The Greatest Immersive Feat of the year." A storyteller and game designer, Ian created The Wake: A Choose Your Own Adventure Memorial Service and The Rogues Gallery which was nominated for "Best Immersive Game" and "Most Innovative Immersive" by the 2019 Immersion Awards.
He holds an MFA from Brown University where he wrote and produced a series of original rock operas including: Rumpadump, White Buffalo, Cow Boy Band, and The Ian McNeely Episode of Inside the Actor's Studio. Ian has composed original music and lyrics for the Bread Loaf Acting Ensemble, The Provincetown Williams' Festival and the world premiere of Curt Columbus' Adaptation of Ivanov at Trinity Repertory Company. Ian was awarded the Oregon Shakespeare Festival's 2009 Rex Rabold Fellowship and delivered the keynote speech at their annual HIV/AIDS fundraiser The Daedalus Project.
He is currently a Carnegie Mellon Fellow (Shall Be, Shall Make) and teaches immersive storytelling at the Parsons School of Design.
All of our workshops are held over Zoom.
